My laptop hinge cracked the back cover plastic. Repairable?
Yes, almost always. We reinforce the hinge mount with metal brackets and patch the cracked plastic so it holds long-term. Costs ₹2,500 to 3,500 depending on damage.
Is hinge repair temporary? Will it crack again?
Properly reinforced hinge repairs last the rest of the laptop's life. The trick is reinforcing the chassis around the hinge bracket, not just gluing the bracket back. That's why cheap repairs fail in 2 to 3 months.
Should I just buy a new laptop instead?
Honest answer: if the laptop is more than 5 years old and you were planning to upgrade anyway, maybe. If it's under 4 years and otherwise working, hinge repair is 5 to 10 per cent of the cost of a new machine. Worth it.
Can you fix a hinge that's already pulled out of the chassis completely?
Yes, that's the 'hinge plus chassis crack' job (₹3,500). We re-bond the bracket to the chassis with metal reinforcement and structural epoxy that's stronger than the original plastic.
